About

Good Day

My name is Benjamin Sorre and at the time of this writing I am in my final year of study for Bachelor of Applied Social Science (Youth work) at Tabor College.

This resource was created for the third and final assessment for Ben Lohmeyer’s youth work subject Exploring Violence and Society; wherein we had to design an interactive resource that would highlight critical perspectives that were explored during the subject that would evoke insight and critical thinking in our respective professional context practice. The original PDF resource has been converted into this website, greatly improving accessibility and making needed quality of life improvements over the original.

Exploring Violence and Society invites students to engage in the concept of violence and its place within society through democratic dialogue in relation to our professional practice as well as personal values. Of note is the subjects distinction of violence as a “personal trouble” that is interlinked further into “public issues”. The subject covers a wide range of topics, of note the main topics that were used in this resource were; youth violence, violence within the workforce and violence in relation to animals.

While designing the initial setup for the assessment, I figured that using a choose your own adventure game as a template would be an excellent way to place peers into a more active role when exploring topic themes. The idea was to put the reader into a plausible scenario and have their choices matter (or not…) and thus encourage the readers perspective to be more personal. Everything written in these scenarios was intentional and has meaning inscribed to them and of course plot twists are to be expected…

Lastly, if you’re still intrigued and want to learn more or just want something interesting to listen to, I would recommend checking out Ben Lohmeyer’s podcast on Exploring Violence and Society for further alternative perspectives.
